After the #10 Colgate Raiders (23-9-5) defeated the Harvard Crimson 2-1 in the three game ECAC quarterfinals, they now travel to Lynah Rink in Ithaca, NY to take on the #4 Clarkson Golden Knights (27-7-2). The Raiders have had the upper hand in this season against the Golden Knights, winning both games at 1965 Arena and Cheel Arena. Those games seem like forever ago now, as every game now is win or go home.
The last time these two teams met in the ECAC tournament, Clarkson shut them out 3-0 last year in the championship game earning yet another ECAC tournament title on their way to a 2018 National Championship. The games between these two teams have blossomed into a conference rivalry that will surely translate into a great game tomorrow evening.
Clarkson boasts one of the best top lines in the country, with forwards Loren Gabel, Elizabeth Giguere and Michaela Pejzlova. Their back line is also not a loss for talent, as Ella Shelton and Josianne Pozzebon as they have produced offense from the blueline with an overall 35 points (eight goals and 27 assists). Kassidy Suave has continued to be a wall ever since coming to Clarkson from the Ohio State University. Suave has a 13-4-1 record in conference play with a 1.46 goals against average and has also posted four shutout victories for the Golden Knights.
These players are only a few of the many talented players for the Golden Knights. Overall, the team has produced 3.8 goals per game and has only allowed opponents to score 1.8 goals a game. In total, Clarkson has scored 135 goals to their opponents 66. Their conversion percentage percentage on the power play is also .181 percent, converting 21 goals on 121 opportunities.
The Raiders have a tough game on Saturday.* As they always say, it is hard to beat a team three times in a season. A win tomorrow may allow them entry into the tournament. A loss ends will more than likely end their season. Here is to playoff hockey. Go Gate!
*It was originally stated that the game was being played tomorrow evening being Friday. I edited it to state the correct time which is Saturday, March 9th.
