The #9 Colgate Raiders (17-8-5) are playing their final regular season home games this weekend against the Yale Bulldogs (7-16-2) and the Brown University Bulldogs (5-18-2). Colgate can clinch home ice this weekend on Friday if they can gather three points this weekend. They can clinch the number four seed as early as tomorrow with a win or tie and a St. Lawrence loss. The rest of their schedule is pretty smooth going into the playoffs, it is just a matter of taking care of business and then the main focus will be the postseason.
Meanwhile, the Raiders will have to take on the Bulldogs tomorrow night. The last time these teams met, Colgate defeated Yale 5-2. Yale is fighting for the last spot in the ECAC tournament with just two points separating them and Quinnipiac. Tomorrow nights game will no doubt be a battle but Colgate has been on a hot streak in games. If they carry that over to the rest of their games the rest of the way, they could make some noise in March.
Another team that is on the outside looking in are the Brown University Bears. The last meeting was very surprising to say the least, as the Bears won the game 4-3. Since that game, the Bears have not done well at all since. They are not mathematically eliminated from playoffs yet but they need to win both games and have a lot of help. That being said, the Raiders will be having senior day on Saturday and so the Bears have a very tough day ahead of them.
In short, both of these games are important for both teams, but Colgate is rolling right now. The Raiders are getting closer and closer to their goal and they know it. I feel bad for any team that has to deal with Colgate the rest of the season. Malia Schneider has been scoring more, the second and third lines of the Raiders are producing and Julia Vandyk has been solid between the pipes as of late.
Just two more weeks till playoff hockey. Go Gate!
