Colgate Women’s Ice Hockey Preview: Skating For A Cause This Weekend

The #10 Colgate Raiders (14-8-4) take on the RPI Engineers (11-10-5) and the Union Dutchwomen (3-21-2) this weekend. Not only will they be facing off against a couple of ECAC opponents, they will also be playing for a couple of great causes this weekend.

To kick off, the Raiders host the RPI Engineers for Autism Awareness Night on Friday at 6:00 p.m. Throughout the evening there will be events like chuck-a-puck, a 50/50 raffle and a jersey auction at the end of the game. All proceeds from these events will benefit CNY Quest Inc. That evening the Raiders will rock the puzzle uniforms and also silence the horn for the night as a way of recognizing autism awareness.

Saturday’s afternoon game against the Union Dutchwomen will be Paws And Pucks Day, where all donations and proceeds will go to Paws Of CNY. If you want to bring your dog to a nice afternoon hockey game then go to the 1965 Arena 3:00 p.m. And if you are worried about a loud horn hurting your dogs ears do not worry, the horn will be off for this game as well. There will also be a raffle this weekend in which you can enter to win a prize. I do not know what prizes are involved or how many, but I have a strong feeling that someone will probably have a Colgate gnome by the end of the game.

This weekend’s main focus will be on the great causes but at the end of the day, the Raiders need a pair of wins this weekend to stay in the top four of the standings. To make matters more complicated, RPI is right behind Colgate in the standings by one point. A loss to RPI could make Colgate’s path to the championship even harder with a road series.

Here is to a great weekend of hockey and awesome causes. Go Gate!
