The Buffalo Sabres (24-17-6) defeated the Calgary Flames (30-13-5) in overtime, snapping a three game losing skid.
Both teams almost left the first period unscathed, but the Flames lit the lamp with just one second left to get a 1-0 lead going into the second period.
Midway through the second period, Evan Rodrigues would tie the game at one for the Sabres on a breakaway in which he was left all alone against the Calgary goaltender.
The Sabres took two shots in the third period, those two shots turned into goals. After the Flames got another goal to be up 2-1, the rookie Rasmus Dahlin, took one shot from the blue line to tie the game at two apiece. Jake McCabe then gave the Sabres their first lead of the night with a nice long shot of his own from the other end of the blue line. Unfortunately, the lead would not hold on as the Flames would score less than a minute later to tie the game at three.
The game would go into overtime, and Jack Eichel would take the puck all the way from the Sabres end to the right face-off dot and take a shot. That’s all it took as the bar down shot gave the Sabres the 4-3 victory in overtime.
The Sabres end their road trip through Canada against the Vancouver Canucks on Friday.
