Colgate Women’s Ice Hockey Preview: Top Four Battle Against Quinnipiac And Princeton

The #9 Raiders (11-6-2) take on the Quinnipiac Bobcats (7-11-3) and the #5 Princeton Tigers (12-2-4) tomorrow and Saturday in a pair of afternoon games. The top four teams in the ECAC will be battling as the #4 Big Red Cornell (8-1-4) will also face off against these two teams.

The last time out, Colgate tied Quinnipiac 3-3 and were beaten badly 6-0 by the Princeton Tigers. After the lost to Princeton, Colgate went on a five game unbeaten streak, which included big ECAC wins against Clarkson and St. Lawrence. The streak was snapped this past Sunday in an offensive battle against Mercyhurst.

During that time, Quinnipiac is having an under the radar season which may have a lot of teams underestimating them. Their overall record is deceiving as they are sporting a 6-5-1 record in the ECAC which is good for third in the conference. The majority of their games have been played close to the vest as 14 of their games have been decided by either a goal or ended in a tie. People should be expecting a very close game on Friday.

Princeton meanwhile have been on fire this year. They are the top team in the ECAC with a 10-0-2 record and are currently riding a 16 game unbeaten streak. They have scored more than twice as many goals as all of their opponents and it seems like they will find always find a way to put the puck in the net. As it stands right now, they are looking like the clear favorites to win the ECAC conference with just 11 games left in their schedule.

By Saturday evening, the top of the ECAC conference will either be shaken up or look set in stone as far as the top teams. The Raiders need to take at least one win this weekend to stay in the top tier but a sweep will keep them on top for at least another week.

Here is to an exciting couple of days for Raider hockey. Go Gate!
