First and foremost, a huge congratulations to Bailey Larsen, Jessie Eldridge and Olivia Zafuto for being drafted to the NWHL. Larsen was selected by the Boston Pride with the tenth overall pick in the second round. Eldridge was fittingly elected with the number 13th pick in the draft in the third round by the Buffalo Beauts and following her will be Zafuto who was selected 18th overall in the fourth round also by the Beauts. Best of luck to them once they reach the league.
Now let’s get into the second half of the season. The Colgate Raiders (11-5-2) take on the Mercyhurst Lakers (8-9-2) in Erie, Pennsylvania. The Raiders are currently hold a four game win streak and a five game unbeaten streak heading into this game. After defeating two of the top teams in the country in Clarkson and St. Lawrence, they seemed to have found themselves and the type of team they want to be. Hopefully this carries over into the rest of the season as after Mercyhurst, the rest of their games are ECAC conference games.
Looking at the Lakers, they are 6-2 in their conference but 2-7-2 in non conference play. Overall, they have been outshot and outscored by their opponents except in the third period. This team passes the puck a lot as the entire team has 75 assists but it looks as though it does not translate well into offense as they have scored 45 this season.
This could be an even matchup for both teams as they are playing their first collegiate games since the break. However, if Colgate plays the way they played their last four games, this could get out of hand for the Lakers.
