The Colgate Raiders (11-5-2) defeated the Syracuse Orange (4-14-1) on Thursday in Syracuse and on Saturday in Hamilton. On Thursday, Nemo Neubauerova and Jessie Eldridge paced the Raiders offense with two goals apiece in the 5-2 win. Delani MacKay also had a nice goal in that game and her sister Eleri had a very nice game with three assists.
On Thursday, the Raiders special teams were the focal point of the offense. Syracuse scored first on a shorthanded goal late in the first. The Raiders responded seconds later on Malia Schneider’s first power play goal of the evening. She would score her second midway through the second to give Colgate a 2-1 lead. Jessie Eldridge was the catalyst for the offense with four points on the night, scoring a shorthanded goal in the third and giving out three assists to the Raiders. Former Raider Anonda Hoppner lit the lamp in the third to bring the score within one but Bailey Larson scored an empty netter goal from the blue line to ice the game with ten seconds to go 4-2.
The Raiders finished the first half of the season with back to back weekend sweeps and will not play again till the new year. Their next game will be at Mercyhurst for the first road game of the second half. Until then, just sit tight everybody. Go Gate!
