The Buffalo Sabres took on the Florida Panthers tonight after suffering a defeat at the hands of the Tampa Bay Lightning. This game was low scoring but it was also close as both the Sabres and the Panthers leaned on their defense to keep the game within reach. Two late period goals, including an overtime goal, would give Buffalo a 3-2 loss.
The Sabres struck first as Jeff Skinner scored his 20th goal of the season beating the Panthers goalie top side to put the Sabres up 1-0. The Panthers answered with a late goal in the first on in the first to tie it at 1-1.
The Sabres would regain the lead early in the second on a powerplay goal from Sam Reinhart. When Jack Eichel was fighting behind the net for the puck, the puck bounced to the front of the net where Reinhart was waiting. Reinhart slapped it away, beating the goalie stick side for a Sabres 2-1 lead.
The Panthers would rally to beat the Sabres on a goal midway through the third to tie it at 2-2. The Panthers would score again in overtime to win it 3-2.
The Buffalo Sabres have now lost back to back games against Florida teams, but they were still competitive which is a good thing. They will look to avoid a losing streak when they take on the Western Conference leading Nashville Predators in Nashville when they take them on Monday, December 3rd.
