The Buffalo Sabres took on the San Jose Sharks in the KeyBank Center on a nine game win streak looking for win number 10. Spoiler alert, they got that tenth win!
This game was silent until late in the second period. Rasmus Ristolainen received a cross ice pass from Kyle Okposo as he glided his way towards the San Jose goalie. Coming in from the left with a defender on his right, he passed the puck between his legs moving to the right side of the net in which he put the puck top shelf to give Sabre’s a 1-0 lead.
The Sabres added another goal to begin the third period. Sam Reinhart went stride for stride with Nathan Beaulieu and delivered a cross ice assist that met Beaulieu’s stick and he tapped it past the Sharks netminder for a 2-0 lead.
This 2-0 lead would be not last as the Sharks tacked on two goals made by Joe Pavelski to tie the game at 2-2 and the Sabres would need an extra period to figure out a way to get win #10.
That way was with Jeff Skinner, who scored his 19th goal of the season mid way through the overtime period. After rookie Rasmus Dahlin fought with a sharks defender for the puck, Jeff Skinner swooped in and snagged the lonely puck and gave it a home in the back of the net via a low backhand shot. That goal would give the Buffalo Sabres a 3-2 overtime win and their 10th win of the season, which also ties their franchise record which was last accomplished in the 2006-2007 season.
