#8 Colgate women’s ice hockey (1-1-0) face off against the #5 Ohio State Buckeyes (2-0-0) in Ohio. While Ohio State swept Quinnipiac Bobcats at Connecticut, the Colgate Raiders split their home opening series against Penn State who were without half of their team in that series.
The combination of sophomore forwards Tatum Skaggs and Emma Maltais will certainly be hard to contain on the offensively and defensively have a mix of experience and youth.
Colgate will need everyone to be firing on all cylinders if they want to beat one of the top teams of the nation. Jessie Eldridge will need to continue her awesome career as a Raider and contribute to this team whether it is with a goal or an assist. The other upperclassmen like Shae Labbe and Olivia Zafuto will look to make an impact but that starts but the onus is on the underclassmen to create those opportunities for them. I do think the freshman on this team will rise to the occasion and make a huge impact in this series. After another week of practice working out the kinks will make the Raiders even better against a tough opponent like Ohio State.
Colgate needs one win in this series in order to rise in the rankings. Ties and losses will either keep them at #8 or drop them maybe to #9 depending on what other teams do this weekend. My prediction is that Colgate will either split this series or at least tie one game this weekend.
